It's easy to sell books through the website or mobile app. You can view offers from BooksRun on its site or on a comparison platform such as Bookscouter. Cons: BooksRun mandates a minimum order value of $15, and offers can be unpredictable. In contrast to other vendors, BooksRun doesn't support direct deposits. You can get a quote by entering the book's ISBN or UPC. Pros: TextbookRush is catalogued by Bookscouter and other platforms, so you don't need to check the site directly. Selling textbooks and other items on the same platform is convenient. You have the option of receiving payment through PayPal, cash, or store credit. Cons: Offers are guaranteed for up to 14 days, but the website claims that shipping can take up to three weeks. You could get less than the quote if it takes longer than two weeks for your package to arrive. Like many other vendors, TextbookRush offers free shipping on sales. You\u2019ll get a prepaid shipping label when you accept its offer. TextbookRush currently pays sellers through PayPal, cash, or store credit. Store credit never expires and can be used on both purchases and rentals.  As with BooksRun, you should keep in mind TextbookRush deducts the cost of shipping from your offer. In other words, free shipping is just a way for the buyer to pay less for your textbooks. Selling a textbook in person can help you earn more money by avoiding the need for transportation.  Given the similarities between TextbookRush and competing platforms, comparing prices is the best way to maximize your value. That said, the ability to sell more than just textbooks is a nice perk, because you\u2019ll only have to deal with one vendor.  CampusBooks CampusBooks Search for Your Book CampusBooks: Best for comparing sites Basics: CampusBooks is a price aggregator similar to Bookscouter and a few other platforms. It provides a few unique features, but it doesn't collect as many offers as Bookscouter. Pros: Unlike Bookscouter, CampusBooks displays basic information about each listed vendor. For example, it let me know BooksRun pays extra for bulk orders and that SellBackYourBook offers free shipping. Cons: I received more offers from Bookscouter on the book I tested, but they had the same top two prices: $46.28 from SellBackYourBook and $46.27 from Blue Rocket Books. Like Bookscouter, it compares offers from a number of sites and lists them for you in order of price. CampusBooks partners with a variety of well-known vendors including Amazon, BookByte, and SellBackYourBook.  For example, using the same economics textbook, I received offers from five platforms. Two were for $46, one for $41, one for $38, and one for just $19. Each price on the list is accompanied by the form of payment (e.g. cash) along with a short description of the service. Three of these descriptions noted the buyer would also pay for shipping, while two were unclear.  Once you\u2019ve identified the best offer, you can click the \u201cSell\u201d button to continue to the vendor\u2019s site. This leads you directly to the \u201cComplete Order\u201d section on the target website. In other words, you won\u2019t have to enter any duplicate information to sell your book.  CampusBooks provides the same service for rentals and purchases, so it\u2019s a great place to come back to whenever you\u2019re looking for the best deal on textbooks. There\u2019s also a CampusBooks mobile app available for both iOS and Android devices.  The drawback to CampusBooks is simply that it doesn\u2019t partner with as many sites as Bookscouter. While both sites led me to the same best offer, Bookscouter found 13 offers while CampusBooks found just five. With that in mind, Bookscouter may be the best place to sell used textbooks. You can always check CampusBooks if you aren\u2019t satisfied with the offers you find through Bookscouter.  SellBackYourBook SellBackYourBook Search by ISBN SellBackYourBook: Best for value Basics: SellBackYourBook is one of the top textbook buyback services online. You can also buy and rent used books. The website allows you to enter up to 30 ISBNs at a time. Pros: SellBackYourBook had the highest offer for the book I tested, although that could vary for other items. Its offers are posted on both Bookscouter and Bookfinder. Cons: You only have seven days to ship your books after receiving an offer. FREE SHIPPING Yes  MINIMUM ORDER None listed  APP Yes, iOS and Android  SellBackYourBook is another vendor buying, selling, and renting textbooks for students of all ages. While it doesn\u2019t offer a price comparison tool, it seemed to provide decent prices on most textbooks. Both Bookscouter and CampusBooks recommended SellBackYourBook for the books I entered.  Getting a quote from SellBackYourBook is as simple as entering the textbook\u2019s ISBN. You can do this online or using the site\u2019s iOS or Android app. In addition to books, SellBackYourBook accepts video games, graphing calculators, DVDs, CDs, and more.  SellBackYourBook offers competitive prices, and sellers get free shipping for either UPS Ground or USPS Media Mail. Keep in mind that you won\u2019t be able to sell books without an ISBN, teacher\u2019s editions, or any other irregularities. The website has an A rating from the Better Business Bureau, illustrating its history and reliability.  Textbook Recycling Textbook Recycling Sell Your Books Textbook Recycling: Best for teacher's editions and other uncommon books Basics: Textbook Recycling is a textbook vendor known for accepting a wider variety of books than competitors. Founded in 1997, it's one of the oldest services still active. Pros: Textbook Recycling buys conventional textbooks along with teacher's editions, international editions, and more. Most sites only accept student's editions. You can sell new copies for a higher price. Cons: Offers are only guaranteed for three days, and Textbook Recycling only operates a desktop site. At $50, it also has one of the highest minimums. Orders of less than $50 are subject to a $5.99 shipping charge. Like many of its competitors, the site sells the books it buys back, so you can find used textbooks for a low price. Unfortunately, Textbook Recycling doesn\u2019t offer a price comparison tool to make sure you\u2019re getting a good deal.  You\u2019ll have to search by ISBN to find the book you\u2019re interested in selling. The textbook I used to check other sites wasn\u2019t accepted by Textbook Recycling, but you may receive a decent quote on other books. You should try a few sites if Textbook Recycling won\u2019t buy your book.  While Textbook Recycling provides free shipping within the continental United States, shipments from Alaska and Hawaii cost an additional $1.75 per pound. You can opt to receive funds through PayPal or as a check. Don\u2019t forget to compare prices before selling your book to Textbook Recycling.  Textbook Recycling guarantees quotes for three days, so you have to send your books quickly after receiving an offer. The website estimates a seven- to 10-day processing window for physical checks. This drops to five to 10 days for PayPal transfers, but that\u2019s still longer than some other sites take to pay sellers.  In contrast to many of its competitors, Textbook Recycling will buy a variety of unconventional copies. Unless you live in Hawaii or Alaska, Textbook Recycling has virtually no disadvantages relative to other vendors. Amazon amazon logo Search by ISBN Amazon: Best for finding individual buyers Basics: Amazon accepts trade-ins on a wide variety of textbooks, and can list items on the Amazon Marketplace. From there, buyers can view your books while searching through Amazon listings. Pros: Selling directly to buyers could help you earn more money compared to selling to a middleman. Amazon also offers instant payment on some items. Cons: Creating listings can be unreliable, and you may have trouble finding an interested buyer. You'll have to manage shipping costs if you opt to sell on the Amazon Marketplace. FREE SHIPPING Yes  MINIMUM ORDER None listed  APP Yes, iOS and Android  Amazon buys textbooks along with a variety of other items such as video games, DVDs, and more. Amazon\u2019s prices are listed by sites like Bookscouter, so you don\u2019t necessarily need to check Amazon to get a quote. If you do, receiving a quick estimate is easy by entering some information on the Amazon website.  One unique benefit of Amazon is that you can always list the textbook yourself if you aren\u2019t interested in the company\u2019s trade-in offer. Amazon is open to third-party listings, although sellers usually pay a few dollars in fees. This can help you get closer to the real value of your book.  Amazon sends a prepaid shipping label for trade-ins, so you won\u2019t need to worry about transportation costs. You can view your shipment\u2019s progress from the \u201cYour Trade-in Account\u201d section. The shipping label will include a deadline for you to start the trade-in process.  While many websites require the ISBN, you can search for Amazon trade-ins using the title or author. Once you find the right book, the website will ask some additional questions about its condition. You can view quotes from countless textbook vendors and complete the transaction on the site. Pros: BookFinder clearly displays the minimum buyback from each site. The website allows you to search for multiple ISBNs at once and find the best total offer. Cons: Unfortunately, I didn't get as many competitive offers from BookFinder as I did from Bookscouter and CampusBooks. That said, all three sites came up with the same best offer from SellBackYourBook. While it came up with the same price as the aforementioned services, it found eight quotes \u2014 fewer than Bookscouter but more than CampusBooks.  In addition to buying back books, BookFinder can help you find both rentals and books for purchase. In fact, it came back with 78 new copies and 155 used when I searched for a title. This flexibility makes it one of the top places to buy, rent, and sell textbooks.  Unlike through CampusBooks, you may need to check each site to confirm shipping costs. BookFinder does let you know the minimum order value for each service along with the form of payment.  BookFinder also lets you input multiple ISBNs and determine the best offer for the entire set. If you have three books, for example, you may prefer to sell them to the same site rather than setting up separate transactions. This feature alone makes BookFinder one of the best textbook aggregators, and therefore arguably the best place to start your search.  Powell\u2019s Powell's Sell Books Powell's: Best for in-person sales Basics: Powell's is a brick-and-mortar bookstore operating in Portland, Oregon. You can sell books in person or send them to the store using a free shipping label. Pros: Selling to a physical store prevents transportation from affecting your quote. Powell's also offers pre-paid shipping labels on all orders. Cons: Powell's doesn't focus on textbooks, so it may not accept as many items as other companies. Its prices aren't listed on comparison tools such as Bookscouter and BookFinder. FREE SHIPPING Yes  MINIMUM ORDER Seven books or $8.99  APP None  While Powell\u2019s is based in Portland, Oregon, the local chain accepts returns from anywhere in the U.S. It\u2019ll pay for UPS Ground shipping and send you an online offer before you ship the book. Like on most other sites, you\u2019ll simply need to type in the ISBN to get an instant quote.  You can also take your textbooks directly to Powell\u2019s for an in-person transaction. Either way, you\u2019ll have the option to receive payment in cash or store credit. Buying hours are different from store hours, so check the schedule before going in.  It\u2019s important to remember that Powell\u2019s is closer to a conventional bookstore than a textbook vendor. While it\u2019ll take some textbooks, that isn\u2019t its focus, and it may not accept as wide a range compared to other sites. The economics book, for example, didn\u2019t lead to an offer on the Powell\u2019s website.  As a local business, Powell\u2019s typically isn\u2019t included by textbook aggregators like CampusBooks. You\u2019ll need to check its website directly if you\u2019re interested in selling textbooks or anything else. While it may not accept the book at all, it may make a better offer than other sites.  BookByte Bookbyte Search by ISBN BookByte: Best for longest guarantee Basics: BookByte is a typical textbook vendor listed on many aggregator sites. You can search for books using the ISBN, title, author, or a keyword search. Pros: Offers are guaranteed for up to 30 days, one of the longest guarantee periods among buyback services. You'll get free shipping on all orders, and the minimum order is just $10. Cons: BookByte doesn't operate an app. The website only takes student's editions in good condition with all supplementary materials. You'll also be able to support a good cause while earning money from old textbooks. There's a convenient price comparison tool that allows you to check purchase prices from other vendors. Cons: There isn't a Blue Rocket Books app, so you'll have to sell through the website. Orders are only guaranteed if they're shipped within seven days and arrive within 14. Blue Rocket Books doesn't sell its own inventory. FREE SHIPPING Yes  MINIMUM ORDER None listed  APP None  Blue Rocket Books is another buyback vendor providing free shipping on all sales. If some or all of your books are rejected, you have 10 days to request them back. You\u2019ll need to pay for return shipping on any declined books, so double-check their definition of \u201cgood condition\u201d if you\u2019re not sure.  Blue Rocket Books was one cent behind the top offer for the book I tested. The website also displays prices on comparison services including Bookscouter and BookFinder. Orders are only guaranteed if they\u2019re shipped within seven days and arrive within 14. Make sure to ship your items quickly after getting a quote.  While you can buy books on the website, Blue Rocket Books doesn\u2019t offer store credit or sell its own inventory. Instead, you enter an ISBN and it outputs the lowest prices on rentals and sales. The ability to search for textbook deals is one of the site\u2019s top features.  eCampus eCampus Search by ISBN eCampus: Best for flexible sales Basics: eCampus has been around since 1999 and is one of the longest continuously active textbook vendors online. You can buy, rent, and sell physical books, and download digital books through the website or app. Pros: eCampus is one of the only listed sites to offer a digital reader. There's an app on both iOS and Android as well as a surprisingly robust rewards program. If eCampus doesn't make an offer, you can also list your book or books on the website's marketplace. Cons: The website only advertises free shipping on orders of at least $35. FREE SHIPPING Yes, above $35  MINIMUM ORDER None listed  APP Yes, iOS and Android  eCampus launched in 1999, making it one of the oldest online textbook buyers still active in 2020. In addition to buying, renting, and selling physical books, you can access electronic textbooks through the site\u2019s e-reader. The reader is available on all computers plus both iOS and Android. It\u2019s easy to make an account and transfer purchases across all your devices.  You can check trade-in prices by entering the ISBN of your book (or books). eCampus allows you to input a number of ISBNs at the same time to get a bulk quote. From there, you\u2019ll receive a shipping label and send the books to eCampus.  Being able to get a bulk quote makes eCampus significantly easier to use than some other sites. Instead of entering individual ISBNs and adding up the total, you can compare offers for your entire textbook collection. You can receive payment through PayPal, check, or direct deposit, or donate the value to charity. Pros: This is one of the easiest ways to sell a wide range of items at once. Offers are guaranteed for up to 28 days, and you can get quotes through the website or app. Cons: Decluttr isn't listed by platforms like Bookscouter, so you'll need to check the website directly. Unfortunately, you can't choose your own charity; you can only opt to donate to one of Decluttr's partner organizations.
