By now your blog is a functioning business with the potential to make you the big bucks. You’ve set it up correctly, picked the proper tools, written great content, and placed your affiliate links.
Now all that’s left is to grow your business. And by “grow,” I mean get more eyes on your blog posts and therefore your affiliate links. The more eyes on your affiliate links, the more people will click on them, and the more people click on them, the more money you make!
So let’s get into the art of increasing traffic to your website.
💯 1. Write quality content. Don’t skimp.
When you write good content, you’re inviting your audience to visit your blog again.They’ll bookmark your content. They’ll Pin it. They might even share it with their friends.
However, when you write mediocre content or content whose purpose is obviously just to make a buck, your audience are not likely to return or to share your content with others.
On that note, keep in mind that not every blog post necessarily has to have an affiliate link in it. In fact, some blog posts can just be informational or entertaining in nature. Oftentimes, it’s these blog posts that have the greatest readership. But you can still place your ConvertKit email form in the middle of your blog post so that perhaps the reader will be interested in getting periodic updates from you about new blog posts.
🙋 2. Connect with other bloggers in your niche. Comment on their posts.
Don’t view other bloggers in your niche as your competition; there is plenty of business to go around! View them as friends with whom you can establish a mutually beneficial relationship. Feel free to ask them what works and what doesn’t in your particular niche with respect to increasing traffic.
An easy way to connect with bloggers in your niche is to comment on their blog posts.Because blog post comments are a form of social proof — that is, they confirm that the blog post is worth engaging with — most if not all bloggers will welcome your comments, assuming that they are genuine and helpful.
And here’s the cool thing about commenting on other bloggers’ posts, especially if they have a wide readership: your comments will oftentimes link right back to your blog.Score!
📽️ 3. Experiment with different content types.
While the written word will be your bread and butter, you should not be afraid to change it up every now and then with different kinds of content. Examples of different kinds of content include:
- Video posts
You see, some people respond better to video than to the written word. In fact, a lot of people are like this these days, given the prevalence of video entertainment.
🤔 4. Think twice about your titles.
A blog post’s title can make it or break it. A good title can make your blog post go viral, but a bad one can keep the clicks away like nothing else.
David Ogilvy (1911 – 1999), known as the father of advertising, once said, “On average, five times as many people read the headlines as read the body copy.” And he said this before the dawn of the Internet! Imagine how much more people simply read headlines today!
You see, people today are accustomed to skimming headlines on Google or Facebook or wherever on their phones, and if your headline (along with your image), doesn’t stand out, your clicks will be far and few between.
If I could give you any one piece of title advice, it would be this: make sure that your headline leaves some unanswered question or mystery that will compel the viewer to click on the article.
