Tax Group Center is BBB accredited with an A+ letter grade, answers its phones around the clock, and a substantial share of its reviewers report real relief. It is also among the least transparent firms of its size we have examined: no attorney, CPA, enrolled agent or owner named, no published price, a rented virtual-office BBB headquarters, and one guarantee — a price cap whose policy URL returns a 404. Our searches turned up no enforcement action, but the fee and who will handle your case cannot be checked in advance.

Disclosure: Money Done Right founder Logan Allec, CPA, owns Choice Tax Relief, which competes with the company reviewed here. That is exactly why the scorecard above is based on published, verifiable evidence rather than opinion.

Who Tax Group Center Is

The entity is Tax Group Center, Inc. on its homepage and California BBB profile. A second BBB profile, in Idaho, carries the alternate name Urgent Tax Care, Inc. and a different formation date; whether that is one corporation with two registrations or two corporations sharing a brand is not established.

The “over 30 years” discrepancy

The homepage says “Over 30 Years of Experience.” Every dated record says something shorter:

  • BBB, California: started 10/21/2009, incorporated 2/10/2011, “Years in Business: 16.”
  • BBB, Idaho: started 5/23/2008, incorporated 9/15/2008.
  • Solvable gives 2009; BestCompany gives 2008 and “18 years in business.”

ConsumersAdvocate writes that the firm employs professionals “with over 30 years of combined industry experience,” and Solvable calls the figure collective. So it is staff experience added together, not the age of a business every dated record puts at 17 to 18 years old — and the homepage omits “combined.”

Nobody is named

No founder, owner or parent company appears anywhere on taxgroupcenter.com, and our searches found no ownership record. Across its homepage, About Us, tax-attorneys and Accreditations pages, it names zero individual attorneys, CPAs or enrolled agents, describing staff only by category: “CTEC-certified tax consultants, enrolled agents, tax attorneys, and CPAs.” You cannot look up a category.

Its California BBB profile lists one IRS Enrolled Agent license, #00123687, expiring 3/31/2027 — a business-level credential that says nothing about staffing.

Four addresses

  • About Us: Calabasas, California headquarters and a Post Falls, Idaho office — no street address for either.
  • Contact page: only 206 E Indiana Ave #207B, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814 — the neighboring city, and no California headquarters at all.
  • BBB, California: 15260 Ventura Blvd #1200, Sherman Oaks, CA 91403-5347.

Premier Workspaces lists that last suite as its “Sherman Oaks Valley Executive Tower” and sells virtual-office packages there “starting at $29/month.” Virtual offices are legal and common; the finding is only that the address BBB carries for the company’s California headquarters is one. The company’s own Post Falls page is unfinished: Lorem ipsum placeholder text, no street address, confirmed twice.

Services Offered

The homepage names nine IRS programs: Offer in Compromise, Installment Agreement, Currently Non-Collectible status, Innocent Spouse Relief, Penalty Abatement, Collection Statute Expiration Date, Fresh Start, Debt Forgiveness and Tax Audit Appeals. It adds tax preparation, bookkeeping and IRS representation, and describes handling “cases from $10,000 – $500,000+.”

Whether “Tax Audit Appeals” means full audit-defense representation is not disclosed, and no state-specific relief program appears on any page we fetched. The Accreditations page claims TrustLink, ASTPS, CTEC, NAEA and NATP memberships with no numbers attached; we confirmed none.

How Does Tax Group Center Work?

Stage 1: The free consultation

The homepage offers an “Absolutely FREE NO-OBLIGATION Consultation,” and About Us says the offices “are open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.” That access is its strongest verified feature.

What is not disclosed is who takes that call — a licensed attorney, CPA or enrolled agent, or a non-licensed sales rep.

Stage 2: The quote and the work

Because nothing is published, the number you hear on that call is the first number you will see. Get it in writing and ask what part is refundable. SuperMoney reports a retainer is required. Loss of contact after payment is the most repeated complaint here, so settle your case manager and escalation path in writing.

Tax Group Center Cost

Nothing is published. No price, range, hourly rate or fee schedule appears anywhere on the site, and ConsumersAdvocate confirms it “does not disclose specific pricing, investigation phase fees, or a stated minimum debt requirement.” Third-party sites contradict each other:

  • Solvable: minimum debt $10,000.
  • SuperMoney: minimum $10,000, average fee $2,250, range $500 to $35,000, retainer required.
  • BestCompany: minimum $0, though it typically wants at least $5,000; “prices usually start at around $1,000.”

Three sources, three minimums, none of them the company’s policy, and a $500-to-$35,000 spread you cannot plan around.

The guarantee is a price cap with no terms

The only guarantee-like language it publishes, verbatim and confirmed on two separate fetches: “We Offer 100% Price Protection Policy.” There is no terms page — the /price-protection-policy/ URL returns HTTP 404, so no conditions, time limits, exclusions, refund mechanics or state-tax carve-out are published anywhere we could reach.

Solvable calls it a price cap rather than a refund guarantee: you “won’t be charged more than the initial quote.” BestCompany states plainly that “No refund policy or money-back guarantee information is disclosed on the company’s website.” SuperMoney alone lists a money-back guarantee subject to terms; we could not locate those terms on the company’s site, so we do not report one.

Tax Group Center Complaints and Customer Reviews

Keep the BBB numbers apart. On the California profile as of August 2026, the company is BBB Accredited with an A+ letter grade, accredited 9/18/2025, with a separate customer-review average of 4.51 out of 5 and 6 complaints closed in the last 12 months.

Two figures worth holding side by side: 64 complaints closed in the last three years and 49 customer reviews. They cover different windows and are counted differently, so treat them as two separate signals, not a ratio.

A BBB letter grade is not a customer-satisfaction score. It weights responsiveness heavily, which is why an A+ and 64 complaints are not a contradiction. The accreditation also postdates most of that window.

One BBB label is easy to misread. Of the complaints displayed, 59 show a status of “Answered” and 5 show “Resolved.” In BBB’s system “Answered” means only that the business replied — not that the consumer was satisfied, and not that anyone decided the complaint either way.

On platforms we fetched directly: ConsumerAffairs, 3.6 out of 5 from 175 reviews; BestCompany, 3.9 from 163; SuperMoney, where 92 of 97 reviewers recommend the firm. Trustpilot, Yelp, Google, Solvable and TrustLink either blocked our fetch or did not render a readable score, so we publish none.

What reviewers say

Positive reviewers describe staff who kept them informed:

“Their staff handled my tax situation quickly and professionally while keeping me informed every step of the way.” Kent S., BBB customer review, 5 stars, 05/19/2026

Every negative below is an unadjudicated allegation:

  • Unresponsiveness after payment, the most repeated theme: unreturned calls, transfers, silence.
  • Fees paid with little or no work performed — the largest figures alleged are $6,000 and $17,000.
  • Difficulty obtaining refunds, including refunds complainants say were promised but never delivered.
  • Repeated requests for more documents and more money, extending timelines.
  • Billing disputes, including one allegation of an invoice claiming roughly $4,000 of services against an agreement of roughly $2,000.

“They continually asked for more money, prolonging the processes…They did nothing to fix my tax issue.” Michael T., BBB customer review, 1 star, 05/28/2026

Is Tax Group Center Legit?

It is a real operating business, neither BBB profile lists a government action, and the California profile lists no BBB alert. We searched FTC actions, state attorney general actions, class actions and lawsuits, and found no action naming Tax Group Center, Inc. or Urgent Tax Care, Inc.

Court records were not searched: PACER, CourtListener and county dockets were not accessed, and state bar and IRS Office of Professional Responsibility checks were inconclusive. That is an absence of records in the sources we reviewed, not a clean legal record.

Tax Group Center Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Free consultation, with live phones 24 hours a day.
  • BBB accredited, A+ letter grade, 4.51 out of 5 from 49 BBB reviews; 3.6 from 175 on ConsumerAffairs and 3.9 from 163 on BestCompany.
  • Reviewers repeatedly describe staff as professional, patient and supportive, and a meaningful share report the firm resolved their case.
  • It replies to complaints: 59 displayed carry BBB’s “Answered” status.

Cons

  • Names zero attorneys, CPAs or enrolled agents; no headcount, no license numbers.
  • No founder, owner or parent company disclosed.
  • No pricing published; three sources give three minimums and $500 to $35,000.
  • The only guarantee is a price cap. No terms page could be found; the policy URL returns a 404.
  • 64 complaints in three years, most carrying BBB’s “Answered” status, which records only that the business replied.
  • The BBB headquarters is a virtual-office suite renting from $29 a month.
  • “Over 30 Years of Experience” against records dating the business to 2008 or 2009.

Alternatives to Tax Group Center

This table tells you what none of these firms will: not one publishes a price. Guarantee terms are the only thing you can genuinely compare up front. Read the star ratings with their review counts attached: Choice’s 5 out of 5 rests on a single BBB review, Optima’s 4.07 rests on 1,987. Those are not comparable samples, and the complaint counts scale with client volume too.

A+, accredited 7/1/2015; separately 4.21 out of 5 from 142 reviews, and 35 complaints in 3 years.

Choice Tax Relief states that it is staffed by CPAs and tax attorneys. We did not verify staff licensure at Choice, Optima or Community Tax, so this table is not a credential comparison.

Disclosure: Money Done Right founder Logan Allec, CPA, owns Choice Tax Relief, which competes with the company reviewed here. That is exactly why the scorecard above is based on published, verifiable evidence rather than opinion.

Optima at least tells you the bill’s shape: two stages, day one not the total. Community Tax describes flat, fixed pricing. Choice Tax Relief publishes no structure, and neither does this company.

Who Tax Group Center Is Best For

  • People who need a live human at 2 a.m. for a straightforward IRS problem in the $10,000 to $500,000+ band.
  • Anyone who will get the fee, refund terms and case manager in writing first.

Who Tax Group Center Is Not For

  • Anyone who wants to know which licensed professional has their case.
  • Anyone comparison-shopping, since there is no published number to compare.
  • Anyone counting on a money-back guarantee. What exists is a cap, with no terms.

Final Thoughts

Each of these is documented and each has an innocent explanation: firms use virtual offices, quote by phone, add up staff experience, and let links break. What you are left with is less information than you would want before paying several thousand dollars — no named professional, no named owner, no published price, no guarantee terms, and a virtual-office headquarters address.

The positives are real: the A+, the 4.51 rating, the round-the-clock access, reviewers who say the firm got them out of a hole. So are the 64 complaints, still unadjudicated allegations. Before any money moves:

  1. Get the entire fee in writing before paying anything.
  2. Ask in writing what is refundable, and under what conditions.
  3. If your debt includes state tax, ask whether the price protection cap applies to it — the policy’s terms are not published, so the site answers neither way.
  4. Get the name, credential and license number of whoever works the case, and verify it against the IRS RPO directory, the state bar, the board of accountancy or CTEC.

You can also apply for those IRS programs yourself. Outcomes in tax resolution depend on your circumstances, and no firm can guarantee a specific result.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Tax Group Center legit?

It is BBB accredited with an A+ grade as of August 2026, and we found no FTC action, attorney general action or lawsuit naming Tax Group Center, Inc. or Urgent Tax Care, Inc. We did not search court dockets, so that is an absence of records, not a clean one.

  • How much does Tax Group Center cost?

It publishes no price, range or hourly rate, so the consultation is the only way to get a number. SuperMoney lists an average fee of $2,250 and a range of $500 to $35,000, and BestCompany says prices start around $1,000 — both third-party estimates.

  • What is Tax Group Center’s BBB rating?

On the California profile as of August 2026: A+, accredited 9/18/2025, a separate 4.51 out of 5 from 49 reviews, and 6 complaints closed in 12 months with 64 in 3 years. The grade is not a satisfaction score; the Idaho profile is Not Rated.

  • Does Tax Group Center offer a money-back guarantee?

None is published. The site carries only “We Offer 100% Price Protection Policy,” which Solvable describes as a cap on the quoted fee rather than a refund guarantee, and the policy URL returns a 404.

  • Has Tax Group Center been in business over 30 years?

The homepage says “Over 30 Years of Experience,” but BBB dates the business to 10/21/2009 in California and 5/23/2008 in Idaho. ConsumersAdvocate and Solvable indicate the 30 years is combined staff experience; the business is roughly 17 to 18 years old.

  • Who owns Tax Group Center?

Not disclosed. No founder, owner or parent company is named on taxgroupcenter.com, and our searches found no ownership record.

  • Does Tax Group Center have licensed CPAs and tax attorneys?

It says so by category — “CTEC-certified tax consultants, enrolled agents, tax attorneys, and CPAs” — but names no individual and publishes no license numbers. Its BBB profile lists one business-level IRS Enrolled Agent license, #00123687.
