I know a lot of people out there are interested in making money from home without having to start a new business or learn new skills.

Well, I’ve recently been getting lots of ads from this free app Mistplay that supposedly pays you to play games on your phone.

So to test Mistplay out to see if it’s worth it, I downloaded the app and spent an hour playing games in it.

Later in this review, I’ll tell you exactly how much I made for playing games in Mistplay for an hour.

Spoiler: Before you get too excited, here’s a quick reminder not to quit your day job just yet.  The money you can earn by playing games through this app isn’t going to replace your salary.

  • You get to earn rewards for something you're doing anyway — playing games on your phone.

  • Earnings are low.
  • Some users report that Mistplay takes a long time to pay out (see comment section at the very bottom of this page).

What Is Mistplay?

Mistplay is an app through which users can play games in order to earn points, which they can then exchange for gift cards.  Users can choose from a list of available games, browse offers in their area, chat with other users, and, of course, earn rewards just for playing free games.  The more time you spend playing, the more you’ll earn.

Is Mistplay Free?

There are no fees or expenses involved with Mistplay, from downloading to redeeming, and the only real limitation is the time you have to dedicate to playing.

What Games Does Mistplay Have?

The games and offers available to you on Mistplay are region-specific.

While the company is working on going global, some gamers may find there is a limited number of offers available to them in their area.

For my region, Mistplay offered a variety of games including Rise of Kingdoms, Coin Master, Yahtzee, Scrabble Go, Toon Blast, World Series of Poker, Harvest Land, Words with Friends 2, FarmVille 2, and more.

Does Mistplay Work on All Phones?

Currently, Mistplay is available only in the Google Play store for Android users.

The company plans to launch an iOS version at some point in the future.

How Does Mistplay Work?

The first step to making money through Mistplay is to download the app on your Android device. As mentioned, the app is free and the process is easy.

What Information Does Mistplay Need?

After you download Mistplay, you will need to sign up with either your email address or your Facebook account.

Then you will need to input your date of birth and gender into Mistplay.

Does Mistplay Require Me to Change Settings on My Phone?

You’ll need to change a few settings to allow Mistplay to run as needed. These include disabling the power-saving mode on your phone and allowing Mistplay to show on top of other running applications.

Without allowing these two changes, you won’t earn credits through the app. That’s because Mistplay can’t track your game usage without being able to access this information.

Whether you like to game on your morning train commute or to wind down before bed, you can earn rewards with Mistplay.

Mistplay Points

Different games will “pay” different amounts or have different requirements in order to earn your points. These requirements might include reaching a specific level or playing for a certain period of time. Be sure to read the offers before you start playing if you want to maximize your rewards.

What Are Mistplay Units?

As you play a game, you’ll be earning points, which are called Units. These Units will be earned only while you’re actively playing the game. This means that you can’t simply leave the app open and expect to come back to earnings.

You should also note that Units offered are subject to change at any time, so you very well could come back to the same game later in the day only to discover that you aren’t earning as much.

What Is Mistplay GXP?

The longer you play, the higher your GXPs (Game Experience Points) will be. Essentially, these GXPs indicate your Mistplay level for that game. To confuse you further, however, your GXP level has to do with how long you’ve played a particular game, not necessarily how skilled you are at it.

The higher your GXP on a game, the higher the Units and PXPs you’ll earn while playing.

What Is Mistplay PXP?

PXPs (Player Experience Points) determine your ranking within the Mistplay app. The higher your PXPs, the more GXPs you’ll earn per minute and the more flexibility you can have with things such as your app avatar, etc. Each time you “level up” in PXPs, you’ll also earn bonus Units.

What’s the Difference Between Units, GXPs, and PXPs?

If your head is spinning with the acronyms and what they mean, you’re not alone.

To help keep things straight, we’ve broken it down for you in our Mistplay review:

Point Type
Definition
UnitsPoints that are traded in for prizes. These are the in-app currency.
GXPGXP stands for Game Experience Points. You start each game at GXP Level 1. As you spend time in the game, you earn more GXP and advance to higher GXP levels. When you advance to a new GXP level, you earn both Units and PXP.
PXPPXP stands for Player Experience Points. While you have a separate GXP level for each game, you have one PXP level for your entire Mistplay account, starting at PXP Level 1 when you first download the app. When you advance to a new PXP level, you earn more GXP (and indirectly more units) while playing games in Mistplay.

Redeeming Mistplay Points

What Can You Redeem Mistplay Units For?

After accumulating a certain number of Units, you can trade them in through the app’s partner, Tango Card.

Redemptions include in-app credits for special games and gift cards for various retailers.

Stores for which you can get gift cards include:

  • Amazon
  • Visa
  • Google Play
  • Xbox
  • GameStop
  • PlayStation
  • iTunes
  • Starbucks
  • eBay
  • Nintendo

Can You Redeem Mistplay Points for Cash or via PayPal?

Unfortunately, you can’t withdraw your points in the form of cash through platforms such as PayPal. In-app credits and gift cards are the only ways you can redeem your earnings.

How Much Are Mistplay Units Worth?

The value of each Mistplay unit ranges from an eighth of a penny per unit if you redeem it toward a $0.50 Amazon gift card to about a third of a penny each if you redeem it toward gift cards of $10 or more.

The table below tells you how much Mistplay units are worth when redeemed for various gift cards.

When Will My Gift Card Arrive?

Once ordered, your gift card code will arrive in your email inbox within 48 hours.

I personally received mine in last than I day after I redeemed in the app.

Input Your Information Correctly

Be sure that your correct email address and currency selection are entered in the app’s settings before you place a rewards order.

There are no cancellations allowed once you cash in your Units, even if you’ve entered something incorrectly.

Can You Earn Bonus Points by Referring Friends to Mistplay?

You can add bonus points by referring others to the app, too. When someone uses your referral code or link, you’ll each earn bonus points in your accounts.

Once you reach a certain point threshold, you can look into trading those earnings in for a reward.

How Much Can You Earn With Mistplay?

The amount you can earn by playing through Mistplay will depend primarily on two factors:

  1. The time you spend playing; and
  2. Your PXPs (Player Experience Points)

Different games will reward you with different Units, or points, based on either the time spent playing or the game level reached. It’s up to you to determine how much time and energy you’re able to devote to the game in order to rack up the points. Also, the higher your overall player experience level within the game, the faster those points will accrue.

Lastly, Mistplay offers a referral program for users. If you refer someone and they download the app, you’ll both enjoy reward points. Once your referral reaches Level 4 in the app, you’ll earn an additional 100 points as a bonus.

So how does all of this translate into actual money?

It will cost you 1,500 units if you want to redeem your points for a $5 Google Play gift card. This doesn’t sound bad, but the time it will take you to reach that level will vary.

If you have a long train or bus commute, spend a lot of time in airports or doctor’s offices, or otherwise enjoy playing games on your phone regularly, you may find that Mistplay is an easy way to rack up $40 or so a month in free gift cards by doing what you already enjoy doing.

However, if you’re an infrequent player and don’t expect to commit much time to your gaming, it could take you considerably longer to earn the same.

Either way, the earning potential is there! It’s just up to you how fast you’re able to bring in the points.

How Much Did I Make With Mistplay?

As I show in my Mistplay review video, I made 490 points for spending an hour’s worth of time in Mistplay, and I redeemed 400 of those points for an Amazon gift card.

Is Mistplay Legit?

You might be wondering, So what’s the catch? After all, being able to make real money by playing app-based games seems too good to be true. There must be some scheme behind it all!

Based on our own research for this Mistplay review and the slew of user reviews available on the app and across the web, we can confidently say that Mistplay is indeed legit. You’re able to earn points (Units) that are redeemable for real-life gift cards to some of your favorite retailers, all without app costs, membership fees, or other expenses.

Gift cards are digitally delivered within 48 hours of redemption, and Mistplay’s customer service team is available to help resolve any problems that you may encounter along the way. Additionally, there’s a very helpful resource center on the website, with FAQs galore.

You can also use the Contact Us form on the Mistplay website to send in your requests or concerns, along with screenshots (if applicable).

Mistplay Review FAQ
Mistplay’s customer service team has published a comprehensive FAQ.

How Does Mistplay Make Money?

So what’s in it for Mistplay? Why would the app give you money to play games without charging you any fees?

Essentially, in exchange for the points you earn, you’re acting as a game tester for Mistplay’s partners. When you play and try out these games, the developers are able to see if there are any glitches, study how difficult (or easy) the levels are for new players, and gain valuable insight.

You may be asked for your feedback after playing a game or reaching a specific level. This feedback will be relayed to the game developers, enabling them to make improvements for future players.

Mistplay Review: Things to Keep in Mind

There are a few things to take note of before signing up with Mistplay.

The app is available for users over 13. In order to sign up, earn units, and cash out for gift cards, Mistplay users will need to certify that they are at least 13 years old. If an underage player is caught, their account will be suspended.

Your earning potential changes. The number of Units you can earn within the app and even within one particular game is subject to change, sometimes without notice. You’ll earn more for having a higher PXP, and less for lower player experience. The amount offered by each game also has the potential to change from one login to the next. This may or may not be in your favor.

Your location matters. Available games and offers are region-dependent. Users in some areas will have more options to choose from, whereas others may have only a handful of games to play and earn from. If you travel, your offers may also change just based on your current location.

Using a VPN will get you blocked. Can you hack Mistplay? Some users have tried to use a VPN, or virtual private network, to “block” their true location from the app. This allows them to access games that are offered only to users in other areas. However, this sneaky behavior will get them blocked from the app if and when they’re caught.

Accounts are deleted if inactive after a consecutive period of 365 days. New users should be aware of the policy and ensure they keep their app activity current to avoid having their account deleted.

Mistplay is an app through which users can play games in order to earn points, which they can then exchange for gift cards.

Mistplay Review: The Bottom Line

Mistplay is a great way to earn some spending money, but don’t put in your two weeks’ notice just yet. You won’t become a professional gamer through this app, and it probably won’t replace an existing side hustle.

However, if you have some time to kill — such as a lengthy train commute — you can pass that time with Mistplay games and earn money in the process. The more you play, the more you’ll earn. Plus, you can cash in your points for real gift cards for the retailers where you shop most.

Perhaps the best thing about Mistplay is that you have absolutely nothing to lose (except a few idle hours). The app is completely free to download. You already play phone games… you might as well have something real to show for it!

So the next time your spouse gives you a hard time for being absorbed by your phone, you can honestly tell them, “Hey, I’m earning us money!”

I donno if Mistplay is legit or not, but I’ve played around 16 Hours Worth of games to get 1800 Credits to get a $5 dollar visa gift card. I’ve waited 3 days for my gift card, but My account somehow got suspended for “fradulent activity” Playing Games For 16 hours in 5 days is possible, but Mistplay banned me for obtaining points to fast? What kind of logic is that? Anyways I’m pretty mad at Mistplay for this

Played day and cashed in 1800 points for an $5 online Visa card just to test. Took a day or so to approve. But it did, and already have over 2000 points again.

Why would Mistplay track you? I’m the type that says if I’m not doing anything wrong, let them track me. They can’t steal my identity because anyone trying to would get laughed at. Play, don’t play, it doesn’t matter.

That’s my view too. My face is already out there on Youtube and Twitch, so I’m not worried putting it out there further if it gets me the gift cards. And in general there’s location tracking and alerts etc to indicate if someone’s trying to impersonate you. Face verification I’m fine with, it’s just keeping in mind where you’d upload your Driver’s License etc to (which isn’t often at all except for job roles and so).

It’s a huge security risk for any sort of tracking. I had a professor that researched security while working on his PHD. The professor that my professor was working under gathered his families consent and challenged him to gather as much information just from providing location data. Within just a month, he was able to find addresses, phone numbers, names, maiden names, high schools, college degrees, pets, personal projects, personal githubs, personal social media and through a little bit of social engineering managed to get them to say “yes” for 3/4 of them (the last one recently moved places). All that from just getting the location passed to him (with their consent of course).

Which is why our Professor always instructs us the importance of privacy regardless if we don’t think we did anything wrong or not, and to also never put our actual maiden names for the security questions. Also if someone calls you on an unknown number and asks you “can you hear me?” or “is this [NAME]” to never say “yes” or “yea”.

Not if their app doesn’t work! Corporations like this when their app breaks, they say to their customers, “Screw you all!” And then they start off by angering their users by causing a systematic regime saying, “If it breaks, do not fix it”

Their app works. It’s not like you have a pay a penny to play these games or use this app. They get their money by allowing ads and you have to know that going in. Ad’s don’t bother me. And I’m gonna play these games whether through Mistplay or not. At least I get credits when I play through mistplay. As you can tell, I’m a huge fan of this site.

I play games everyday on Mistplay. It’s kinda cool to be able to make a little side “card cash” and spend it on myself every couple of months. I usually opt for Amazon gift cards. But in a years time, playing everyday, altogether I made about $130. I noticed lately that since my PXP has increased the accumulation is noticeably faster. Just a few additions to the great information you’ve provided. You forgot to mention “THE ADS”!! The advertisements are the way Mistplay makes money. Maybe not the only way…but most def, one of the ways. And the ads vary from game to game. Some are to the point of being ridiculous, and other games they ain’t so bad. Also, after you reach a certain point in a game, usually level 20, or so, your points will not count any longer towards rewards. So keep that in mind, if you don’t want to spend that time playing a game you aren’t getting anything for, so you can replace it with a game that does. Lastly, games pay the fastest in the beginning 1-3 hours you play them, when you first start out, because Mistplay gives you bonuses of 5, 10 and 15 points for achieving goals. For instance, if you play for an hour after 11:00 pm, you’ll make an extra 30 points, right from the get. Slots pay the fastest because they move at the fastest pace. Especially if you start and stop the button yourself. You’ll rack up points faster that way. Or I seem to, to me, anyway! ? I hope I helped a little! Happy MISTPLAYING!!

I’m glad you mentioned the part about reaching Level 20. Also if you have previously downloaded a game and try to reload it on Mistyplay, you either get fewer units or none, I don’t remember. I personally would like to see more word games and newer bingo games. I don’t really care for the roleplay games. But they do have plenty of options for all genres. And sometimes they have boosted games; games that offer the maximum amount of units possible. I’m glad I’m not the only one who understands this app.

You have to play for a certain amount of time. You aren’t going to get rich playing one day. And you have to play at least one game a day in order to get credit for it.

Ok, so I have played with Mistplay for a few months. I got one $10 Amazon card. I have played for hours and hours and my.points are not racking up. I finally have enough for a $5 card. So I try to purchase it with my points and my account was blocked and Mistplay stated I was blocked for cheating. I have asked them to further investigate this as I didnt cheat nor do I know how.

Another 25. In 5 days . . Then reset phone . New email repeat

This is absolutely not true. I have games I don’t play and I’ve never been blocked. I had Bingo Blitz in Mistplay and out of Mistplay (I recently deleted it because it’s boring now and I needed the room on my phone) and I hadn’t played for a very long time.

I’ve been using Mistplay for 2-3 years and probably have made about $200 in the duration of that time. You should update that Mistplay now offers PayPal redemption up to $25 (7,500 pts). There’s also now Uber Eats, Spotify, and H&M clothing giftcards! Loyalty games were added as well to earn gems towards Bronze, Silver, and Gold loyalty statuses.

You might want to update this post again. They do allow cash outs on Paypal. I’ve been playing games on Mistplay for a few months and I’ve redeemed at least three times through Paypal. The points needed are the same values as for a visa gift card.

The key to earning points as fast as possible is to choose games with the highest PXP ratings (these are shown as stars 1-5 underneath the links to the games) play them for an hour or two, then switch to a new game. PXP earning is paused after two hours of gameplay for one game and as your GXP level increases in the game, it takes longer to earn points.

Ugh, Mistplay has been saying that they’re working on getting an IOS version for many years now. It’s only just now that I’m now convinced that they’re not even trying to create an IOS version of the Mistplay app and that’s a shame considering that they’re excluding a huge group of gamers that have shown interest with Mistplay.

I’ve earned $195.00 playing on Mistplay since April of 2020. Am I getting rich, no. But I would play anyway and I don’t always play the higher unit games. It does take time but if you are going to play these games anyway, why not get credit when you do? This is a legit site and I tell everyone I can about it.

I have played many hours day and night for 76 straight days. So far I have $35 in virtual Mastercards.

However since then I have hardly earned anything for the same amount of time. I get 2 units for the continuous streak and that’s about it. It appears that I’m expected to purchase items within some games to improve my ranking.

I’ve no interest in purchasing anything. I play the games for the pleasure of playing and was promised to receive rewards which appears to have dried up. 🤔

I have made 60 units within 30 minutes, I just downloaded this app. My only questions are; is this collecting my personal information and is it a scam? I think this is a good idea but you can’t make a lot of money on it. I was already playing these games so I will keep it. There is no harm. Please let me know if it is a scam or something like that.

I’ve just started using the app not long ago, so I don’t have any ideas about how to cheat on this app. I cashed out twice in 4 days, making a total of $20.
The next day after my latest cash out, I tried to install a game in the app, only to get the message that my account was put on hold, due to violation of terms of service.
I appealed & today got the email from Mistplay that my account is now blocked & they gave a list of reasons why they might have decided to do it, but none of those reasons were anything that I knew how to do, or wanted to.
I would have to say that Mistplay is a fraud
